L'Università di Algarve (Portogallo), nell'ambito dell'Alleanza SEA-EU - European University of the Seas, di cui fa parte anche l'Università Parthenope, offre alla comunità studentesca e al personale docente e tecnico-amministrativo delle 9 università dell'Alleanza la possibilità di partecipare al corso di lingua inglese online e gratuito "Mediating Specialised Discourse in English (Domain: Marine Sciences)".

The University of Algarve is pleased to invite you to participate in the upcoming Virtual language course titled "Mediating Specialised Discourse in English (Domain: Marine Sciences)”, offered during the 2024/2025 academic year.
 Course Aims:
The course will focus mainly on communication in academic context.  By the end of this course, participants should be able to activate discourse and language use strategies to mediate specialised vocabulary/terminology and phraseology, within the domain of marine sciences, according to audience and purpose. The focus (of this 30-hour course) is on Amplifying strategies to clarify meaning and facilitate understanding.
 Course Details:

  *   Target group: students, professors, technical and administrative staff
  *   Language taught: English
  *   Workload: 30 hours
  *   Methodology: Participant/content-centred learning approach. Communicative language activities: reception, mediation interaction, production.
  *   Prerequisites: B1 level CEFR

Key Information:

  *   Start and End Date: 6th January 2025 – 31st January 2025
  *   Class Schedule: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays from 9:30 to 12:00 (CET)
  *   Registration Deadline: 22nd November 2024

Specific Learning Outcomes:

  *   Reformulating through paraphrasing and use of synonyms
  *   Explaining (breaking down) terminology by providing examples and definitions accessible to audience and purpose
  *   Illustrating by making comparisons, metaphors and/or analogies
  *   Adapting delivery (use of language, style and/or register in order to incorporate the content of a text into a new text of a different genre and register
