The ADVANCED TRAINING COURSE is focused on “Emerging Biotechnologies
for Sustainable Waste Management and Biorefinery Development” and it
is addressed to MASTER GRADUATES, PHD STUDENTS AND PHD. During the
course, up to-date lectures will be given with the aim to stimulate
interactive discussions among participants and speakers.
The Advanced Training Course is sponsored by the EU funded project
“BIOASSORT”(N° 318931) - "_Improvement of technologies and tools,
e.g. biosystems and biocatalysts, for waste conversion to develop an
assortment of high added value eco-friendly and cost-effective

and advanced researchers of BIOASSORT project partners will take part in
the course as audience and speakers, respectively.

The Advanced Training Course is organised by UNIVERSITY OF NAPLES
"FEDERICO II" in NAPLES on 4|5 APRIL 2016.

The Course is addressed to MASTER GRADUATES, PHD STUDENTS AND PHD. The
participation is free of charge and it is based on abstracts' evaluation
and selection.
The deadline for abstract submission is FEBRUARY 20, 2016.
The course is reserved to the authors of abstracts which will be
selected by a Review Commission. The Review Commission will select THE
BEST 100 ABSTRACTS and the results will be released by MARCH 7 2016.
ABSTRACT TOPIC: Besides abstracts on the topics strictly related to the
technical sessions of the training course, the presentation of abstracts
concerning the other technologies and socio economic aspects of the
current and emerging strategies for waste management and biorefinery
development is also encouraged.
The authors of the best 50 abstracts will be also admitted to exhibit a
poster during the Advanced Course and 10 out of them will have the
opportunity to present it in the framework of the course.

THE COURSE IS ORGANIZED IN THE FOLLOWING SESSIONS:
BIOASSORT PROJECT AND BIOASSORT PARTNERS' CONTRIBUTIONS ON EMERGING
BIOTECHNOLOGIES FOR SUSTAINABLE WASTE MANAGEMENT
The BIOASSORT project coordinator and two BIOASSORT project partners
will give an overview of the main results of the BIOASSORT (n° 318931)
project on improvement of technologies and biological tools for the
conversion of Fractions of Municipal Solid Wastes and agro-industrial
wastes, and a presentation of the most emerging and latest
biotechnological strategies for the wastes upgrading.
OTHER EMERGING BIOTECHNOLOGIES FOR SUSTAINABLE WASTE MANAGEMENT
An outlook of the processes of valorization of the municipal wastes
through biogas and hydrogen production by anaerobic digestion and dark
fermentation will be given.
WASTE MANAGEMENT SUSTAINABILITY
The environmental impacts and sustainability associated with all the
stages of waste management will be examined in order to verify the
environmental performances of new technologies, their social acceptance
and economic viability. In particular, the methods adopted to carry out
this analysis by Life-cycle assessment (LCA) will be described.
INDUSTRIAL SECTION
Some companies, with a leading role for Bio-economy in Europe, will show
new technologies, applications and innovative solutions, based on
sustainable biomass, complementary to petroleum derived materials and
fuels, overcoming the inherent limitations of fossil-based derivatives,
and without upsetting the food chain.
EUROPEAN FUND RAISING FOR SUSTAINABLE WASTE MANAGEMENT (OPEN SECTION)
An open section on European fund raising for sustainable waste
management will take place. It will be openly addressed to all
interested researchers. Previous registration to attend the Open Section
is needed; please register
The open session will mainly focus on the opportunities for the EU
bioeconomy and industrial biotechnology development, according to
priorities in 2016-17 Horizon 2020 work programmes.
It will be presented in partnership with the Europe Direct Information
Centre “LUPT” of the Universityof Naples Federico II, part of the
European Commission’s network “Europe Direct” which will provide
for the participants a general overview of its services, with a
particular focus on its internal section “”.
A KEYNOTE ON "SCIENCE AND SOCIETAL NEEDS" WILL END THE ADVANCED TRAINING

Today the world is facing urgent problems that have to be solved on a
solid scientific basis.
To achieve this scientists have to develop both their sciences and their
societal competence.

The aim of XXI IUPAC CHEMRAWN CONFERENCE - SOLID URBAN WASTE MANAGEMENT
[8] is to present a comprehensive perspective on the current challenges
of SOLID URBAN WASTE MANAGEMENT and new directions for their
exploitation, especially through a 'from waste to resource' approach.
The Conference will bring experts from the urbanized world together, as
well as experts from Developing Countries, giving an opportunity not
only to scientists from many disciplines, but also to other
organizations, policy makers and groups involved in control and
certification, to meet and discuss future trends and action required.
